ILP “Design” – Prezi

For the second ILP, I used Prezi as my design tool. I created a presentation on Prezi titled "How to be an Effective Teacher". This presentation provides characteristics that effective teachers should obtain. http://prezi.com/bvbcaep56zdc/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

Final twitter update

For another twitter update,  I have been following the same 4 teachers and here is what they have been tweeting about this week. Vicki Davis tweeted about how students should be listening to podcasts because they are free and very educational. Matt Gomez tweeted about the sports teams at Plano School. 1. I will definitely be using Excel and tools like it when I become a teacher. Before taking this course, I did not understand how to use excel or any of it's functions, because it looks a lot harder than it actually is. After our skill checks and practicing on Excel, I feel confident that I know how to use it much better than I did before. I especially enjoyed learning about how to create a grade book on Excel because it seems very easy and practical for a teacher, and it can calculate averages and final grades for you. 2. I really enjoyed writing my own and reading my classmates blogs this semester. I learned a lot about how different people view different topics on education and it was nice to look at things through a different perspective. I was surprised to read some people's blogs and relate to them, it was surprising to see how much we had in common on different educational topics. 3. A technology related skill that I would like to learn next is much more about Smartbo...

1.A flipped classroom is backwards from traditional learning. In a flipped classroom, students learn online at home and then they have time in the classroom to do homework and ask questions. This saves time at home where children are stuck doing homework that they don't understand. Here is a link to a website with lots of information about a flipped classroom: https://www.knewton.com/infographics/flipped-classroom/ 2. https://sparcopen.org/open-education/ Here is a link to help better understand what an open classroom is and all about it. Basically, open education believes that everyone should have equal opportunities to resources, which is why they are made free online and can be viewed by a wide audience. 3. On the two Powerpoint assignments, I do not think I have really learned anything that I did not know how to do before. I have been creating Powerpoints for a very long time, the only new thing that I have learned in this class is using voice thread. I have never recorde...

1. adaptive technologies are an important part of education because they can help and support all kinds of learners. These technologies can range from larger print text books, translators, and keyboard modifications. I have known some people who use adaptive technologies in my high school. There were many foreign exchange students that came to my school that would use hand held translators on tests and quizzes and to help them read because they didn't know any english. Also, I know many older people who have their font very large on their cell phones to help them read the screen better. The only challenge I could see in my relating to this technology would be that we did not have the resources available. 2. Blooms taxonomy includes levels of: create, evaluate, analyze, apply, understand, and remember. One can use powerpoint for each of these levels. For create, a teacher could have their students create the Powerpoints and lessons for the day. For evaluate, a teacher could use pow...

1. Twitter has been very beneficial to me during the course of this semester. I have had a very enjoyable experience on twitter following 4 educators and staying connected with them through this public platform. So far, I have learned that using twitter as a teacher will be crucial to stay up to date on educational news and use twitter as a resource in my classroom. I have not experienced any issues using twitter for this course. 2. Honestly, the website design assignment was quite confusing to me and I had a hard time completing this assignment because I was unsure of what was being asked of me. As soon as I have figured out this assignment, I will post a link to my website and a screenshot. 3. Diigo seems to be a great resource to teachers if they are able to figure it out. It is very confusing and seems to be very hard to learn and use in the classroom. I think it would be much easier for teachers to use another source that they already knew how to use. If I understood Diigo more,...

ILP Participation - Tech Sandbox

For my first ILP in the participation category, I went to the tech sandbox in the FSU College of Education. In the tech sandbox, we were given a short tour of the space and shown all of the different types of technology they had to offer. We then had time to explore and play with all of the technology they had. The technology that stood out most to me was the virtual reality and the 3D pens. The VR was really awesome to see and hear that it can provide experiences for children who may never get the chance to see them in the future. The 3D pens were also amazing to see because they could be very useful in the classroom and add more fun into regular coloring and drawing. The products and evidence of this ILP was that I signed in when I got there!!

1. The school website that I found had a lot of information about individual classes is called the Lyme School in Lyme, New Hampshire. On their school website, there are many tabs a viewer can click, such as photo gallery and school newspaper. There are also sections for each grade and teacher, which has games, lessons, and worksheets on it. This website required no log in to view all of these things and is very useful for students and parents of this school to have these resources accessible. Included below is a screenshot of their website. http://www.lymeschool.org/classPages.html  2. I see myself incorporating technology in my classroom in many ways, for both students and my own professional use. For students, I really see myself using a smart board because it is beneficial for students to be able to interact with the material. I also see myself using sites like Prezi to make my lectures on instead of Powerpoint because it is more engaging for students and keeps them payi...

1. Web 2.0 tools are no longer viable in schools because they do not meet the ELA standards anymore, but there are still some very effective tools that teachers should be aware of. The first one that teachers should be aware of is Pinterest. Pinterest is a very useful platform for finding ideas and inspiration for pretty much anything. Teachers can find so many cute classroom decorating tips, free worksheet printouts, and much more on Pinterest. It is free to use and so fun to find ideas on!! There are many educational tools such as quiz makers, or grammarly, which checks grammar in papers for free. These tools will be a big help to teachers and they should be aware of these options. I really don't think theres any tools that wouldn't help a teacher in some way. 2. A tool that I found very useful is called Teacher Planet. This website is completely free and offers so many great resources. First, there is a tab full of lessons plans where the teacher can pick a grade level and ...

Robert J. Marzano was still tweeting a lot about his workshops for teachers and how they are also available over webinar sessions so it is easy to access to a wider audience. This has been very beneficial because I feel up to date with educational news!

1. I have had a twitter account for many years but I have never used it for professional reasons until taking this course. It is very easy to find other professionals in the education field and stay up to date with what is going on in the education world through their feeds. I have been interacting with 4 teaching professionals, named Vicki Davis, Matt Gomez, Kevin Corbett, and Robert J. Maranzo. It has been very interesting to follow their accounts and read about current educational news. Twitter can be helpful in my future career by following colleagues and other professionals to stay up to date. 2. The digital divide is a very serious issue in education today. The divide is between students who have access to computers versus those who do not. Computers play a large role in the classroom and technology is essential these days to learning. Students who do not have access to computers and other technologies will be at a disadvantage for the rest of their lives. As a teacher, it would...

1. I have always known that when I become a teacher, I want to teach the 1st grade. After reviewing the ELA technology standards, I feel confident that I would be able to effectively teach many of them. I think I would be most prepared to teach, which says  "Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events." I am a visual learner and can usually see how illustrations would give a clearer image into the story that was being told. The standard that I would need to learn more about  says " With prompting and support, read prose and poetry of appropriate complexity for grade 1." Although I could learn, I do not know much about poetry and would not be able to teach it very effectively right now.  2. Growing up, I always had Smart Boards in all my classrooms and I would really like to continue using them in my future classroom. I think that they really give an opportunity for each student to interact with the material being tau...

Twitter is a network used to express thoughts, opinions, and information to a wide audience. In a professional learning network, Twitter can be used as a news source on topics that you choose to follow, as well as a way to stay connected to other professionals in your field. I have recently followed 4 accounts that relate to educational technology. I followed Vicki Davis, Matt Gomez, Kevin Corbett, and Robert J. Marzano. After scrolling through each of their feeds, I realized that they all had educational technology in common. While maybe using it in different ways, they all expressed how important technology use is in the classroom. I found it interesting that Vicki Davis was tweeting about google classroom because it is something we use in EME 2040. I also found it interesting that almost all 4 of these accounts were tweeting about new apps available for teachers that help implement technology in the classroom.

1. I have been using Microsoft word for as long as I can remember in school. I remember in elementary school we would use word in our computers class once a week to write small and simple journal responses, for example: "What did you do this weekend?" Moving on to middle school, I got my first laptop and have had a mac laptop ever since. Since middle school to now, we have been required to write and turn in documents written on Microsoft word for various assignments and essays. My teachers have always used this as well, for creating worksheets and keeping track of grades. Microsoft word is a very useful tool and everyone should know how to use it! 2. Copyright rules can sometimes get confusing, especially for younger students. I have always known about copyright rules, but sometimes it is hard to know what material you can and can't use off of the internet. I recently learned that you have to cite images you find on google, which I had never done before in the past. In m...

Today's society revolves and thrives off of the use of technology and all of the resources it provides to its users. Teachers are influenced to use technology for many reasons. A prominent reason to use technology in the classroom is because due to standards, it is required to an extent. Teachers realize the opportunities that come with using technology in the classroom and it can provide students with individual learning experiences that are at their own pace. Students are influenced to use technology because our young generation and the generations to come are drawn to the use of technology because we have had it our whole childhood. Students and children are influenced to use technology because that is the way they have grown up, and always want to use the newest cutting edge gadgets.  The ISTE standards for educators are basically rules and regulations that teachers must follow and meet each school year regarding the use of technology in the classroom. One of the regulations...
1. I have been using technology in the classroom and personally for as long as I can remember. In middle school, I remember having Smart Boards in all of my classrooms. We were lectured from Power Points on the Smart Boards and were able to come up to the board and interact with it. I specially remember using Smart Boards in math classes where we would write the problems on the board and complete them in front of the class. In high school, we also used Smart Boards and used Canvas to keep track of our grades. I got my first laptop in the 9th grade and have had Macbooks ever since then. I have had an IPhone since the 7th grade and am still teaching my parents how to use theirs. I would say that I usually can figure out new technology especially if I can watch someone use it first. 2. In this class, I hope to learn how to use technology sources that I may not understand yet that will help me one day in my classroom. I hope that I can learn them so well that I would be able to teach som...
